Project Description
Peter Bertelsen Memorial Park is the District’s first park, founded in 1962 and renamed in 1965 for the memory of Lieutenant Peter L. Bertelsen, of the El Dorado Hills Fire Department, who lost his life in the line of duty. The park encompasses 10.7 acres and is nestled in the Park Village along Arrowhead Drive and Redwood Lane. It is one of the District's largest village parks, and also features Deputy Jeff Mitchell Field, which was completed in fall of 2009 and is located next to Brooks Elementary School.

On May 6, 2021, the Pavilion structure, including picnic tables, benches, drinking fountains and restrooms were destroyed by an act of arson. As a result, the park was approved for renovation on July 14, 2022 by the Board. The Board reviewed a new replacement concept design at the May 11, 2023 Board Meeting and requested three alternative concepts with a reduced splash pad area in varying sizes. Three alternative concepts were developed and presented at the Parks and Planning (P&P) Committee's June 20, 2023 meeting. On July 13, 2023, the Board reviewed the concept designs and approved Design #2 as the final concept. An RFP for Construction Bids was released on February 5, 2024 with a mandatory bid walk on February 16, 2024 with ten construction companies in attendance. Two bids were received at the Bid opening deadline on March 15, 2024 - Abide Builders ($1,990,000.00) and KYA Services LLC ($1,928,672.00). The lowest responsible bidder was KYA Services LLC. The bid was award by the CSD Board of Directors on April 11, 2024. Depending on the weather and County permitting, park demolition and construction is expected to start in Spring 2024.
