Solid Waste & Recycling
HISTORY: In 1962 the District was empowered to collect and dispose of residential and commercial garbage and refuse matter within District boundaries. An ordinance establishing mandatory garbage service also provided rules and regulations governing refuse disposal, fees, and services. In March 2003 the Board of Directors adopted a more comprehensive multi-cart recycling program, improving the District's ability to meet the State of California's landfill diversion mandate, AB939. Our current contract for waste and recycling is through a franchise agreement that expires in July 2015. Our responsibilities in this area are to:
- Monitor compliance with the ordinance and Franchise Agreement
- Assist in resolving customer complaints
- Coordinate and manage community events such as the
- Community Cleam-up Day
- Christmas Tree Chipping Program
- Monitor delinquent accounts, including assessing liens when necessary.
Our staff participates on the Solid Waste Advising Committee and assists with the preparation and review of the Source Reduction and Recycling Plan which must be submitted to the California Integrated Waste Management Board. The District submits Diversion Reports to El Dorado County quarterly documenting CSD compliance with AB 939. We promote continued recycling and source reduction within the district.
