New York Creek Nature Trail

The southern end of the New York Creek Nature Trail begins in the Community Park along Harvard Way across from Oak Ridge High School. The mile-and-a-half trail provides botanical settings and views of native wildlife. The Trail’s northern end is in the Art Weisberg Park near Jackson Elementary School. The New York Creek Nature Area consists of approximately 28 acres.

A little background…

On October 12, 1972 Pacific States Development Corporation granted a Gift Deed to El Dorado Hills Community Services District for Parcels 1 and 2, which was the first area of what is now our New York Creek Nature Trail. In 1986 the area was enlarged when Developers Reynen, Bardis & Winn, a General Partnership, conveyed to the CSD an 11-acre parcel along New York Creek, for use as an open space natural area.

A New York Creek Stewardship Committee was formed to encourage local community involvement in the protection, conservation, care and use of New York Creek. The Committee’s objective was to protect and enhance the natural condition of the immediate New York Creek area and provide for recreational access for residents.

Over the years the Committee has arranged a New York Creek logo contest, Walk-a-longs, Arbor Day Tree Plantings, Nature Area Clean-up Days and other related workdays. The CSD has been fortunate to have many Scouts do Eagle projects there including: installing trail signs, building benches, putting up birdhouses, constructing a bulletin board, planting 15-gallon oak trees as well as doing general cleanup for improving the trail.

The New York Creek Nature Area and Trail fosters educational opportunity for local schools and community participation in creek area enhancement. The residents of El Dorado Hills have a great opportunity to walk this beautiful trail and enjoy nature at its best.
